Alli Rose - Metadata Coordinator & Marketing Assistant
I have two young kids at home and my children and I have read through this book choosing games and activities for them to enjoy. They have tried several out and loved them. I like having a resource of activities on hand when the kids get bored, or if I'm trying to plan something to do with a large or small group of children.

I first encountered Leila Darwish's book Earth Repair while taking my Permaculture Design Certificate at OUR Ecovillage for Starhawk's Earth Activist Training. I was absolutely inspired by the Bio-remediation techniques at a time when one can feel true despair about the toxins dumped on the planet. She gives everyone tools to be productive at a Grassroots level and helps us to be appreciative of what we can accomplish within our own communities to help heal the soil and water. I highly recommend this book if you need a boost of inspiration paired with practical application.

Unlearn, Rewild is still one my favourite books. "The idea that this young man literally walked out of his suburban community, into the surrounding wilderness and taught himself to forage, hunt, garden, and gather for his livelihood inspires me to this day. Is this something that we can all do? Probably not, but it demonstrates that there is something we all CAN do, no matter our skill level." Unlearn, Rewild will make you question what it means to be civilized.

As a 5th generation North American settler I am very interested in Alejandro’s thoughts on the cultural role and ecological niche of the 95% of the world’s population that is not indigenous . He says: “The moment you (an indigenous person) believe—in your spirit, your gut, your whole being—that the surrounding lands and waters are where your people have lived “since time began,” and that those very same places are where your people will stay “until time ends,” a cascade of commitments and responsibilities begins to flow….Does that mean that the notion—and conservation power—of becoming part of a place and its functioning ecosystems is unavailable to the likes of me? I sure hope not.” Me too.
